Abstract The paper begins with a prelude concerning the significance of geography books in general, and those of al-Bakri in particular. This is followed by some biographical comments on al-Bakri himself. Consideration is then given to al-Bakri’s Masalik al-Mamalik and Mujam ma istajam, emphasizing the information contained therein regarding the conquest of certain towns, cities and localities.
