| Abstract |
This study aims at identifying the way university youth use their leisure time by looking at a representative sample of students at King Saud University. It also aims at identifying the types of leisure activities practiced by both male and female students and points at the differences between the two sexes. Results indicate that male students practice ten activities during their leisure time. They favor three out of the ten as most important to them. These activities are: sports, watching television, and memorizing and reciting the Holy Quran. Results also indicate that female students likewise practice ten activities, and that they favor three of these, i.e., reading newspapers and magazines, watching television, and going to shopping centers. Results also show fundamental differences between male and female students regarding their responses to commonly practiced activities such as sports (which is much higher for male students) and reading newspapers and magazines, making phone calls, and attending lectures and symposia (which are higher for female students). With regard to the other activities such as watching television, memorizing and reciting the Holy Quran, and reading cultural books, results do not show significant differences between the responses of male and female students. |
