| Abstract | Proverbs are types of literary works that are characterized by conciseness and metaphorical features. They are eloquent devices which express human experiences and feelings. Thus, they reflect the traditions, values and habits of nations. This study is concerned with the old Hebrew proverbs in the" Meqra". It focuses on two main dimensions: the semantic investigation of these proverbs, as wen as their social functions in the life of the ancient Jews ~e stylistic investigation of the syntactic structure. |
