Abstract The Courtyard Building types are one of the most important Building types, which are used in practice of building design from the ancient Egyptian architectural age to modern age. The misunderstanding of architectural design principles of the Courtyard Building types is the problematic of this paper. This makes the practiced trials a base in order to develop model as main idea. The paper hypothesizes that architectural design of Courtyard Building types have some principles, which distinguish these types from others. The Courtyard is not a space like any others spaces in building, but it is a part of exterior space. So, the Courtyard building types have special characteristics, special correlation between spaces and Courtyard, and special correlation between the exterior form and Courtyard. The main aim of this work is to demonstrate those principles, and discussion of it under contemporary circumstances. In this respect, the paper is comprised from four parts and introduction. First, an approach, which contains research problem, hypothesis aims, and research methodology. Second, the study, which demonstrates the principles of architectural design of the Courtyard Building types. Third, the general results and discussion of those principles, under contemporary circumstances. Finally, the conclusion and recommendations.
