| Abstract |
The East coast of Saudi Arabia has a very rich natural life. This provides good potentials for a lot of development specially tourism facilities. This development is demanded to improve the economy of the country in general, and particularly the proposed area. The paper illustrates the special features of the ecological system of this coastal area. These features present a good environmental base for tourism development. The interrelated challenges of the natural and the developed are discussed through the paper. The paper also explores the "expected" natural negative impacts on the development of any coastal development. Moreover, it examines the direct impacts of human development on the surrounding environment. The paper proposes a procedure to be followed. This procedure helps in evaluating the inter-related impacts of any proposed tourism development on the coastal area of the study zone. A set of recommended steps is concluded as a summary of this procedure. |
