Abstract The development process of planning and designing neighborhoods remains a vital subject in contemporary urban planning. This research paper will document an experiment conducted by the Urban Planning Department at King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to devise a state-of-the-art, integrated scientific methodology for the process of residential land subdivision. The introduction gives a theoretical background relevant to the urban design methods and the steps of the decision making process. The paper will then describe the technical background of the departmental experiment as well as the details of all its stages with some practical examples. This will be followed by conclusions and further recommendations.
