Abstract The study examines the Geo-strategic elements of the republic of Chechnya, such as location and phusical, human and economic elements which play a role in the conflict between chechnya and Russia. Also, it explains the roots of the conflict and its future. It becomes clear that, the important geo-strategic elements of this republic are; first, its location been between Asia and Europe, making the republic as a point of contact and clash aarea between Russia and Muslim world. Second, its physical aspects, especially, its mountainous area in the southern part which becomes as a shelter for the Chechnyan people who fight against their enemy. Similarly, the wide spread forests covering the country also provided shelter for the people to stand up and fight against any foreign attachk. Third, the homogeneity of the population, as the vast majority of them are Muslims and speaking mainly one language. Fourth, it’s a reasonable oil reserves and production. In addition, there are some other reasons that make this republic more important for Russia, such as; the historical hostility has existed stood for more than two hundred years between the two sides, and the strategic location of this republic on some important petroleum lines and high-ways connecting between some parts of Russia.
