| Abstract |
This study deals with a foundation text which was executed in six golden sheets which were being fixed on the outside fame of the lintel of the door of the Holy Ka'ba. It gives the date for the re-construction of the Ottoman Sultan, Ahmed III (AH. 1115-1143/1703-1730) for the sides of the door of the Holy Ka'ba, by letters (hisab al-jummaf) as AH. 1119/1707. I paved the way for this study by mentioning the most important works of repair and re-construction which were done for two sides of the door, the lower sill and the lintel. I followed this introduction with six axes: defining the text, the raw materials, repousse, letters shapes, kinds of decoration, technical characteristics and the scientific values of the text. In the conclusion, I mentioned the results I reached during my investigation. A copy of the foundation text and an illustration of the place where it is fixed and a table of the shapes of its letters are also appended. |
