| Abstract |
This study aims to analyze the future identity of public administration through concise conceptual discussion of the subject matter and by means of field study of the attitudes of a sample of public officials working in central government and mixed sector enterprises in Jordan. The study has reached the following conclusions: 1. The study revealed high degree of ambiguity related to the identity of public administration based on the on-going dialectic and respondents views in this respect. 2. Respondents highly agreed on the necessity for public administration to change in concepts and practices for many reasons including technology, knowledge, social, economic, privatization, and globalization developments and trends. 3. Respondents see future public administration as characterized by professional, technical, information focus, better control systems, transparency and decentralized structures and improved total image. 4. Respondents believe that future public administration requires academic and practical adaptations including focus on quantitative and numerical aspects, knowledge and information emphasis in academic plans and programs. The study recommended new research issues to be targeted by academicians and total restructuring of academic programs and institutions as well as public sector institutional comprehensive restructuring in the light of the changing role of governments. |
