Abstract Abstract. The paper addresses certain Jewish symbols which play a significant role in the religious, historical and social life of the Jews. It tackles the issue from two perspectives: the linguistic and the historic significance of these symbols in terms of their derivations and uses in various linguistic contexts. The symbols dealt with are classified into two types: the first that deals with David's shield and the causal relationship between the shield and the Prophet David and how it became to be the symbol of the flag of Israel. Also, the relationship between the lamp stand "AI-Minoora" symbolizing the governmental institutions and the "AI-Henooka" is characterized. The second class of symbols are the horn known as "shofar" and the other horn known as "hasoserit". Further, the study deals with what is called "AI-Mezowza" and "AI-Tifleen" which form part of the Jewish faith. In addition. the study deals with two types of clothes for prayer called "Taleet" and "Tsiseet" and how they can be differentiated from each other. The study finally deals with "Minyan" which refers to the sequence of numbers to be completed before prayers are offered.
