Source Journal of King Saud University. Arts. Volume 11, No 2. (1999/1419)
Abstract This paper deals with the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) in King Saud University Libraries. It aims to show the current status of OPAC for searching information resources by students. The main points studied include: various ways of seeking information by students, their use of OPAC, their satisfaction, their difficulties with OPAC, and their suggestion to improve OPAC. The study results show that many students use OPAC for seeking information; and they prefer it more than traditional search tools such as card catalogs. The reasons for that include: comfort, speed, comprehension, easy access and use, and the completion of information. The study also found that most students have problems using computers because of their unfamiliarity with this technology.
