Abstract
The site of the Islamic city of 'Aslun-one of thc important archeological sites in the Qunfudhah r~gion-is rcma.-kable for containing the most significant and extensive collection of inscribed tombstones in the Tihama, many of which refer to the local rulers of the AI 'Uwayd. This article begins with a description of the sitc of . Aslml and proceeds to discuss its significance both archeologically and as the erstwhile capital ofthe mikhltif of the samc name. Attention is thereafter devoted to the rulers themselves, their chronology and titles, as derived from the tombstones themselves. Twelve inscriptions are then given a detailed analysis.
