| Abstract |
This research paper deals with the concept of redundancy (ziyadah) as conceived by Arab grammar-ians and commentators of the Quran. The paper started with the fact that the concept of redundancy is a well-established topic in the grammatical study. However, describing any word in the Quran to be redundant (za 'idah) is a deniable practice, but scholars applied this term and other terms simi]ar to it such as silah, hashwu, laKhwu..etc. to identify words that can be omitted from the context without affecting the structure of the sentence and its meaning. The paper found out that the majority of Muslim scholars accepted the idea ofthe presence of redundant (za 'idah) particles (huruf, sg./wlj) in the Quran according to the grammatica] definition mentioned earlier, taking in account their various terms in describing it. The ]ast part of the paper is a study of fifteen particles (halj) which were said to be redundant in some verses of the Quran. |
