Abstract This study rejects some modern critics' judgements that believe the old poetical texts to have been fragmented, simple and superficial. At the same time, the study sees the process of reading a text several times as providing access to the poet's world, and to the revelation of his own poetical vision and experience. This cannot be achieved unless the receiver has the feeling of being involved in the creative process. If so, one can penetrate deeply into the poet's creative vision, become aware of his experiences, and uncover the relations that lie amongst the parts of the poem under investigation, those parts which seem inconsistent with one another.
