Abstract
What is a strategic information system? The definition used in this research paper focuses on the actual use of the system. The basic and primary function of the strategic information system is to aid the competitive strategy of an organization in its sector and its plan for gaining competitive advantage and maintaining it, or to reduce its competitive disadvantage relative to its competitors. The research stated that we may consider an information system to be "strategic" if it changes the way an organization competes or changes the sector's structure. The strategic information system contributes to competitive advantage if it provides a higher return on investment for an organization than its sector's average return.
