| Abstract |
Most studies that are concerned with the suitability of the built environment with the dwellers’ societal needs of muslim societies consider redesigning the built environment according to the local needs as the sole solution to provide the suitable built environment. However, the real problem is not only in the built environment itself, but also in the design process which has been driven from capitalist societies. Due to the impact of capitalism, the design process has been considering functionalism as the main criteria to develop an efficient built environment. As a result, the design process as well as other western societal forces became as tools for capitalism and its values to invade societies. Thus, the design process inevitably develops capitalist values even if the intention of the muslim designers is not to do so. |
