| Abstract |
Small town centers play a more important role in enhancing the quality of life of its inhabitants, considering economic, social and cultural activities than do big city centers. Saudi settlement centers are not covered in current city comprehensive plans, while such areas are creating some of the greatest obstacles to the planning process. The lack of urban renewal plans have resulted in chaotic central development. Thus most central areas became substandard environments. This caused the emergence of new scattered commercial strips in unplanned locations and has provided the imputus to remove some central elements. It, in turn, has confused and shifted the urban focus and the overall settlement structure and pattern. |
