Source Journal of King Saud University. Agricultural Sciences. Volume 17, No 1. (2005/1425)
Abstract This study was designed to investigate some customs among families in Riyadh City. Nutritional data were collected from a random sample consisted of 800 families. Data were statistically analyzed to determine percentages and means among nutritional customs. Findings showed that respondents adopted several nutritional customs and hygienic practices. This includes washing fruits and vegetables before consumption, washing hands before eating, food quality consideration at purchasing and reading label before purchase. Respondents indicated that lunch was the principal meal of the day, while breakfast was of little importance or rarely considered as a main meal. Some respondents sometimes preferred having their food served in several food plates. The main sources of information about nutrition were TV, books, relatives, doctors, newspapers and radio.
