| Abstract |
Linguistic sounds are limited in number in all languages, so we expect to find similarity among most sounds. But there are also some differences. There is no doubt that it is difficult for learners of foreign languages to find difficulties in pronouncing the new sounds. The aim of this paper is to carry out a contrastive analysis between the sounds of Turkish as a second/target language and Arabic as a mother tongue. Aspects of similarities and differences have been identified according to the strong version of contrastive analysis. The paper addresses also the difficulties that Arab students may encounter. Examples are given from the negative role played in Arabic loan words in Turkish and their negative effect on the correct pronunciation of the Arab students when they are learning Turkish including the Saudies. |
