Source Journal of King Saud University. Arts. Volume 16, No 1. (2004/1424)
Abstract Among the factors that increase the magnitude of a population is people’s migration, particularly internal migration within the regions of a country. Such migration is mostly affected by push and pull factors that categorize each region from the other. From this perspective, this study aims to analyze and describe the internal migration among the thirteen local regions of Saudi Arabia, guided by the latest demographic data survey collected in the year 1999. The study indicates that the total size of the internal migration was 1,699,310 constituting 11.55% of the Saudi people inside the Kingdom. More than half of this migration (70.41%) was directed towards the three largest regions of the country which were Riyadh, Makkah and the Eastern Region. On the other hand, the regions of Jazan, Al-Baha, Asir and Al-Qassim were considered the main regions which lost population, exceeding three quarters of the net migration (77.98%). The largest age group in this migration was between 25-29 years of age constituting 12.28%. It has been found there are no major differences between males and females in this migration (50.94% , 49.06%) respectively
