| Abstract |
This study investigates the impact of collective work during business application development on reducing the number of errors committed, and the impact of that on the productivity of the team performing application development. Through a lab experiment, a comparison was conducted between the behavior of errors of single developers with teams. The study results indicated that team work imposes a significant impact on reducing errors, and that increasing the number of members of the development team will reduce errors, however, it will degrade the satisfaction about group work among the team members. The study concluded that there is a need to distinguish between two types of development tasks: those developed with no prior experience and those which are routinely developed. Through applying appropriate statistical methods, the study advises the use of large teams for application development tasks performed with no prior experience, and small teams for application development which are routine in nature. |
