| Abstract |
This paper presents results of a study that was done to develop an Arabized expert system for diagnosing common cracks in concrete buildings. The system is designed to diagnose concrete cracks in foundations, columns, beams and roof slabs. The knowledge-base for the system was elicited from specialized books, journals, actual case studies from the archives of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing in Saudi Arabia, and meeting experts in the domain. The expert system is developed using Level 5 Object which supports Arabic language, hence makes it possible to use Arabic language both in the interaction with the user and writing the program. Using Arabic language in an expert system is considered to be unique in this field. The system is designed to be user friendly and interactive through presenting pictures or statements to select from, and support Arabic language so it could be used by wide range of local engineers and specialists. |
